SIAL CANADA UNVEILS ITS 2023 PROGRAMMING!

 Toronto: ON: Running from May 9th to 11th, SIAL Canada 2023 acts as a "One Stop Shop," uniting professionals and major players in the industry. This year, we are proud to offer an innovative and content-rich program that includes 35 conferences, panels, and more than 20 activities and competitions. By continuing to lead the industry and serve as a source of inspiration for the next food revolution, SIAL Canada reinforces its position as a prominent industry leader.

SIAL Canada 2023 remains dedicated to upholding its mission of inspiring food businesses through engaging content, interactive demonstrations, and top-tier competitions including: The SIAL Canada Conference program featuring presentations by industry experts covering a diverse range of topics including consumer behavior, future of food, sustainability, food marketing trends, and many others. La Cuisine by SIAL, highlighting renowned chefs Stefano Faita, Michele Forgione, Chuck Hughes, Erica Karbelnik and Matty Matheson, will be dazzling attendees with the latest culinary creations, while sharing game-changing tips with visitors. Inspire Drink, where restaurant owners and food professionals can engage in interactive workshops and live tastings. The Food Professor Podcast, hosted by Michael LeBlanc and Dr. Sylvain Charlebois, showcasing interviews with numerous influential innovators, experts, and entrepreneurs in the food industry. And finally, SIAL Canada's World-Class Competitions featuring several prestigious competitions such as SIAL Innovation, the International Cheese Competition, the Pitch Competition, and Olive d'Or. These competitions aim to recognize and reward the most revolutionary products and people that are transforming the food industry.

SIAL CANADA DAY 1

Day 1 of the show is a busy one on our Cheese by SIAL area, booth #2251, starting with our International Cheese Competition Judge's Parade (10:30) followed by the Tasting of the category champions (11:45), the Champions Award Ceremony (12:15), the Champion Overall ''Award Ceremony'' (13:30), and finishing the day with three Champion Tastings.

The La Cuisine by SIAL area, booth #1345, will showcase amazing demonstrations focused on innovation, starting with Maximizing Profit &Flavour, Mastering Cost-Effective Cooking by chef Erica Karbelnik, and followed by Sustainable farming using ancestral practices by chef Chuck Hughes x The Wild Basket, as well as Quickfire Challenge with SIAL Innovation products (Erica Karbelnik).

Our Tea and Coffee and our Mixology Experts, Gail Gastelu and Jean-Sébastien Michel, will host a serie of animations on our Inspire Drink area, booth #1613, ranging from Tea Cupping & Tasting Process, Brewing Up Wellness: Infusions & Functional Beverages, Foodie Fun: Tea & Cheese Pairing in the morning with Gail (The Tea House Times) to Improved Garnish Game, Putting up a Show and Non Alcoholic Cocktail How To in the afternoon with Jean-Sébastien (Alambika).

Don't forget to visit the SIAL Innovation area at 10:45 for the highly anticipated 2023 SIAL Innovation Award Ceremony!

The Olive d'Or area, booth #600, will highlight the Olive d'Or Contest with the Jury Tasting and will host the Olive d'Or Ceremony starting at 12:45. Be sure to assist to this 17e edition to discover our five category winners (Ripe Fruitiness, Light Fruit Flavor, Medium Fruit Flavor, Strong Fruit Flavor including the new Aromatic category).

The conference program will showcase headliners like Sylvain Charlebois, Jo-Ann McArthur, B.K. Sethi and Cristina Carpio, with subjects like Challenges and Opportunites in growing Ethnic Market in Canada (B.K. Sethi Marketing ltd.), New consumer habits in the foodservice and retail sectors (Circana), Food and Beverage Report (FCC), Fireside chat, clash of generations and opinions on what’s next (Evolve Media Group, Dalhousie University, University of Guelph), Upcycling: waste with a purpose (Jane Dummer RD, TerraBio Foods, Dairy Distillery, COMET), and more.

DAY 2

On the second day of the show, at 10:30 a.m., the anticipated Pitch Competition will begin, featuring 15 exhibitors from the Start-Up Village. An innovative format, where start-ups compete against each other in a 3 minute Pitch focused on seducing the jury in two categories: Food & Beverage or Technology & Service. The award ceremony will take place from 2:30 to 3pm on the Start-Up Village area, booth #143.

The Cheese area, booth #2251, will be host to two Champions Tastings as well as Canadian Cheese Board Secrets, an animation by David Beaudoin and presented by Dairy Farmers of Ontario (DFO), followed by The World of Ontarian Cheese Part 1, also presented by DFO and concluding with Cooking with cheese!

Gail Gastelu will be back on the morning of day 2 to present Shake Things Up: Boba, Matcha, and More, Coffee Tasting: Flavor, Roasting Styles and Terroir and The Art of Tea and Chocolate while Jean-Sébastien Michel will follow up with Espresso Martini Trend, Cocktails for “non cocktail” places and IT & Mixology on the Inspire Drink area, booth #1613.

La Cuisine by SIAL area will have as special guests, Stefano Faita with Pasta in heritage, homemade and easy, Chef János with Authentic Flavors of Hungary: Hot-Sweet-Sour Pairing (Consulate General of Hungary in Toronto), Stefano Faita and Michele Forgione with Nostalgic Meal: Chicken cutlets, Bologna style as well as Own the Change Student and Young Chefs Competition (presented by Taste USA).

DAY 3

Day 3 includes the second part of the Dairy Farmers of Canada's animation on Ontarian Cheese and the panel : Plant-Based «Fauxmages» - Trend blip or Growing on the Cheese by SIAL area, booth #2251, demonstrations on La Cuisine by SIAL, booth #1345, with renowned chef Matty Matheson, Cold Brew & Iced Tea and Flavor blending animations by Gail Gastelu as well as Bitters & Tinctures and Closing cocktail by Jean-Sébastien Michel on the Inspire Drink area, booth #1613.

A number of great conferences will also close the show on May 11th with From Farm to Fork: Revolutionizing Food Innovation in Times of Turmoil (Dalhousie University), The changing story of sustainability (Nielsen IQ), The Continued Demand for Organic (Canada Organic Trade Association), Unlocking the Power of Gen-Z and Millennials: A Closer Look at Today’s Young Consumer (Leger), and finally, Timing Tech In Your Food Manufacturing Operation: Insights on Tools to Help Grow Your Business (Harvest Insights, Savormetrics, Sweets from the Earth, OMAFRA), and more.

The three days of the SIAL show will also feature The Food Professor Podcast, hosted by Michael Leblanc and directed by Dr. Sylvain Charlebois.
